I have been interested in engraving since I received my first "Hubley" cap pistol at age three with stamped engraving on it. As a youth growing up on
a farm in mid-MIssouri, my interest in firearms and their appearance increased, however college, U.S. Army, marriage, and a career in law enforcement became priorities for the next 49 years With the encouragement of my bride of twenty-seven years I attended formal training sponsored by the NRA under Jessie Houser, one of the finest engravers of the last quarter century. With his encouragement and those of my family and friends, I embarked on the most important process of the engraving art; I practiced. The past two years have been spent engraving on my own firearms for trade, advertising, and my own education. Although the engraving art has employed technology to speed up the work and make it easier for some to participate, I decided early on that I wanted to create works totally by hand. Hence I believe that DR Engraving has a niche in the firearms engraving world as one of the few who totally engrave by hand, hammer, and chisel. I currently reside on fifty wooded acres outside Columbia, Missouri with my wife, too many cats and too many dogs. The opportunity to involve myself in Cowboy Action Shooting has rekindled my childhood dreams and provided an opportunity to create truly one-of-a-kind heirlooms from your working firearms. |
